Cross-Cultural Perspectives on Child Development and Early Childhood Education
I invite you to explore “My Areas of Research”

At the core of my work is the question of how young children become appropriate, well-adjusted, functioning members of their society and culture, and the role of preschool education plays in these processes of enculturation and socialization. I am approaching these questions as an educational anthropologist and a developmental psychologist, working at the interface of the academic disciplines of developmental and social psychology, anthropology, educational sociology, and early childhood and comparative education.

国際比較教育研究

幼児教育の場で、子どもたちはどのように育っていくのでしょうか。保育者はどのように子どもたちと接しているのでしょうか。そこに文化がどのように影響しているのでしょうか。これらの謎に国際比較研究より迫っています。

International Comparative Educational Studies

International comparative research allows us not only explore the role of culture in children’s development and teacher’s pedagogy, but also to engage with broader questions such as: how do early childhood education systems in different countries scaffold children’s social, emotional, and cognitive development? How do preschool teachers interact with children?

社会性や情緒の発達

子どもたちは、社会の一員になることを学び、そして、感情を表現することと、他者の感情に反応することの両方を学びます。このような子どもたちの社会性や情緒の発達が、いつ、どこで、どのようになされ、また、保育者は、その発達をどのように支援しているのかを研究しています。

Social-Emotional Development

Children everywhere need to learn to be a member of their society. Children also need to learn how to express their feelings and to respond to others’ emotions. I am conducting research on when, where, and how social-emotional development happens, and how preschool teachers support young children’s social-emotional development.

多くの国で幼児教育に関してのガイドラインが提示されています。教育政策は、幼児教育・教育現場にどのように影響を与えているのでしょうか。教育と政策の関係を探っています。

Educational Policy

Countries have guidelines on early childhood education. I am looking at the relationship between education and policy such as, how educational policy and reform influence preschool’s curriculum and pedagogy.
